There are plenty of reasons to learn a language. If you don’t have any personal reasons or need to learn a second language, I don’t suggest you try to learn one just because. It will just end up stressing you for nothing. You need to want to learn a language or you will just quit. Never the less, here are some considerably good reasons to learn a language for reading pleasure.
Career—one of the top reasons many consider as a good reason to learn a language is for career. This is appropriate because the world is becoming more linked. And any business that lacks the ability to communicate with customers speaking a differnet language will be left behind. Since communication might be the most important aspect of any business, it is obvious that companies will seek candidates that are bilingual.
Global Community—this is more true to English speakers. Learning a foreign language for a personal and even relational use is the best thing you can do for yourself. Imagine the ability to create relationship easily everywhere you go, even at nations that does not speak your language. After all, as the days, months and years passes, we will only be brought together. Get ahead of what is coming and start adding more in to your language treasure box by learning a second language.
Pleasure—there is nothing wrong with learning a foreign language for pleasure. Languages are fun and beautiful; languages are unique like people—they have their own personal character. So if you want to learn one becuase you like it so much, go right ahead.
So, there is nothing wrong with learning a second language, even if the reason is as simple as pleasure. And learning a foreign language other than the one you speak will enhance a deeper understating of your own language. If you speak English, this is more so.
